In 1886, the YWCA of Elmira and the Twin Tiers was established to provide housing for young women who were moving from the farms to Elmira with the intent of working in industry.
Since that time, this YWCA has provided both mission and participant-driven programming to meet the ever-changing needs of women in Chemung County and Northern Pennsylvania.
Our program areas, Health Promotional services, Youth, Adult and Childcare, provide strong prevention components aimed at building individual strengths and resilience, cultivating leadership and working to change systems that present barriers to empowerment.
This YWCA actively collaborates with other community organizations, taking partnership and leadership roles on issues affecting women, children and families.
