Girls Conference (Gaining Insight on Real Life Situations)

When: Conference will be held on March 26th

Where: At the YWCA

Time: 8:15am - 1:15pm

Keynote presenter is Christine Baze of the Yellow Umbrella.  Christine is a musician and cervical cancer survivor originally from Elmira.  After the presentation girls will participate in a variety of workshops that will inform, enlighten, and make them think about their future.

 

Yellow Umbrella Student Ambassador Program
The goal of the project is to use a student perspective to continue Christine Baze message of hope and awareness and educate others in our community on the issue and prevention of cervical cancer.  For more information contact Kim Stanton. 733-5575 x 232

 

 

Free After School Programs for Grades 6,7,8 at Ernie Davis and Broadway Middle Schools

 

Extended Day/Violence Prevention Program meets at both

Broadway and Ernie Davis Middle School immediately after school from 3:15pm - 5:15pm at Davis and from 3:15pm - 5:25pm at Broadway.

 

The program runs from November until the end of May.  Students can choose from a menu of activities that provide academic, social and enrichment activities in a safe, supervised environment. The program is a partnership of the YWCA Elmira and the Twin Tiers and the Elmira City School District.  School, community organization & business staff facilitate programs.

 

Registration forms and schedules are also available in the schools main office.  Packed into the schedule are a wide variety of programs from Homework Help to Golf and many more in between.

Gang Prevention/awareness

The YWCA of Elmira and the Twin Tiers, area law enforcement and Southport Youth Services are collaborating to develop a Gang Prevention/Awareness Program in the area.  Kim Stanton Program Manager for the YWCA Youth Services is a Certified Gang Specialist and New York Gang Investigators Association Regional Director of the Finger Lakes East. Kim provides Gang Awareness powerpoint presentations to those interested in learning more about this issue.  For  more information or to schedule a presentation contact Kim Stanton at the YWCA 733-5575 or by email at kims@ywcaelmira.org.

For Girls Only 

Just For Girls- The YWCA Elmira will be offering a new program this fall as part of the Elmira City School District’s Broadway and Ernie Davis Middle School Extended Day Program.  It is the hope of the YWCA that by providing young women with educational and recreational programming the social competencies of relationship development and self confidence will be enhanced.  Just For Girls will be held at the YWCA one day a week for two hours after school and will be open to any young women who participates in the Extended Day Program.  The program will offer girls one hour of enrichment including a Super Sitters babysitting certification program, career/college exploration and other life skills programs and one hour of recreation to include swimming, volleyball, basketball, DDR and more.  For more information email Kim Stanton kims@ywcaelmira.org
