YWCA UPK Information
The YWCA works in partnership with the Elmira City School District to provide free pre-kindergarten to families in the school district. The class is led by a state-certified and experienced teacher and follows the same curriculum as the school district pre-kindergarten classes. Children must be 4 years old by December 1, 2012 and a resident of the Elmira City School District to enroll. Below please find additional information about the program as well as instructions for enrollment.
· The class will be held at the YWCA building at 211 Lake Street, Elmira. Parents are responsible for transporting their child to and from class each day.
· The class follows the Elmira City School District calendar. When district pre-k classes are in session, the UPK is in session.
· Students will receive swimming lessons throughout the school year at no additional charge.
· Our class size is smaller, which means your child will receive more individualized attention.
· Wrap around child care is available before and after school hours on site from 7:00 am until 5:30 pm. This is at an additional cost, subsidy is accepted.
· Students will take part in many different learning opportunities including: language and literacy, math, and science instruction, social and emotional skill building, art, music, and sensory play experiences, outdoor or gym play daily, and field trips. The UPK follows the Elmira City School District Pre-Kindergarten curriculum based on NYS standards.
To enroll your child, you must register with the school district. Call 735-3040 and tell them you want to enroll your child in the YWCA UPK class.
