MIchele Johnson, Chemung County Chamber of Commerce Athena Award winner leading YWCAElmira!
Dear YWCA Supporter,
As the year comes to a close, feelings of gratitude and appreciation fill our hearts! While you know us as your local YWCA, we operate as an association of one of the oldest women’s organizations in the United States.
Our voices rise with 210 other local associations who get up each day to do the work of equality and social justice. Collectively we serve over 2 million women, children, and people of color in more than one thousand communities worldwide!
As people are unique, so is our local work to empower women and children:
We support women’s economic advancement as the largest childcare provider in Chemung County. Women can work and pursue educational opportunities knowing their children are safe and supervised.
We support women’s health by providing free services by the only certified mastectomy fitter in our area to help women heal and get much needed support after breast cancer.
We support education by offering Universal PreK, Preschool, and ARCADE after school programs in collaboration with the Elmira City School District. We also mentor teens at Elmira High to ensure their success and safety in and out of school.
We advocate for women’s rights with a CEO who is the President of YWCA’s of New York State and a member of the New York State Council on Women and Girls.
In 2019 we were recognized by the NYS Governor’s Office for our history of work for women and girls and our CEO won the Chemung County Chamber of Commerce Athena Award for her lifelong inspiration and mentorship of women and girls.
We are incredibly proud that we have been able to do this great work for 132 years, overcoming any obstacles that arise. Empowering women and girls to reach their fullest potential is our primary focus at YWCAElmira – past, present, and future.
Please help us build on our foundation of services and plans for growth in 2020 with your tax deductible, monetary gift to the YW today.
